So, how did *this* bizarre one come about?
To explain the origin of this little piece, I must explain something about my writing. You see, some of my favourite characters to work with are "between worlds", that is, being from two different groups, part of both but neither. I don't find it surprising, actually, that I like to write these characters: The first fanfic I ever wrote was about Scott Hayden, the half-human, half-alien teenager on the series "Starman". You could say that I'm interested in writing people who are of two different worlds, where one or both of their conflicted cultures don't exist to mundane Earth.
And, somehow, in all three instances (Greer, Rocky, and Teresa, Rocky's daughter) of characters I've created/modified, I find something in common: the conflict of War vs. Peace. This wasn't really intentional, but maybe it's kind of a reflection of myself: the pacifist who, nonetheless, likes shows where there's a lot of martial arts and swordfighting.
Rocky and Greer share a lot in common. Both were involved in something supernatural in their teen years, and they were both exposed to what they were to become before they changed. Neither of them is particularly thrilled with the changes in their bodies or their lives. Still, both of them are trying not to have these changes totally disrupt what they are. Greer is still a historian and observer, Rocky is still a young adult and warrior. Occasionally, their new abilities will throw them off, but both of them try to stay balanced.
And, because of what Rocky and Greer share in common, I wanted to bring them together. I've never had the opportunity for two of my characters to discuss their lives, and these two were perfect choices. For one thing, they would be interesting. Secondly, they could introduce their respective audiences to one another. And, at least, one falling into an alternate universe didn't faze either of them! (Advantage to having two people who are used to such things happening.)
On a related note, people may notice that Greer refers to herself as Georgina in this story. This is because, well, Greer decided to go back to her real name, shedding one she percieves as belonging to the Watcher she was (but never succeeding, as people will call her "Greer" to her dying day). Since she wasn't into explaining this to Rocky in this story, some people may wonder why the sudden change.
And, I think that's it.
