Disclaimer: Ian is mine (as are the mentioned Cecelia, Teresa, Malgrath, and Regina), but nobody else is. They belong to Saban. No profit is being made on this fic.
"Come with me," the girl said. She was about his age, Asian, pretty. Trouble was, Ian didn't recognize her. And he wasn't with the Parents' Night group, so nobody should be mistaking him for a gofer.
So he just stood there, confused. The girl appeared irritated. "I said, come with me," she said impatiently.
"I don't even know you," he said. "Why do you want me to come with you?"
The girl reached forward to grab Ian's arm. "Just come," she said firmly.
"Ian?" another voice asked. Ian's father came through a doorway, obviously just finished talking with Ian's English teacher. The girl swung around, somewhat taking him with her. Boy, was she strong. But all idle thoughts flew from his head when he noticed his father's worried, somewhat panicked look. "Let go of him," Ian's father said in a low voice to the girl.
Ian knew his father had been a Ranger, that his parents had been teammates. He knew that they'd had dangerous encounters that would scare most people. He just didn't expect one of those encounters to show up on Parents' Night and attempt to kidnap him.
Oblivious to Ian's thoughts, his father and the Asian girl were still fighting a battle of wills. She still had a grip on his arm, but it was loosening up. He realized that she was looking him up and down. "I didn't realize he was your son, Adam," she said sweetly. Then she was looking at his father. "A few obvious defects, but he might do. On the other hand, you might be worth it, too...."
Ian's father reached out and pulled Ian to his side. "You had your chance, long ago, Scorpina," he said softly.
"Don't tell me you don't believe in second chances," the girl, Scorpina, answered, just as softly.
"A second chance to kill me, you mean," Ian's father replied firmly. Just then, his mother came out of the same room.
"Adam, what's...." his mother started to say. His father interrupted her.
"No time. Protect Ian!" his father said. Ian was startled. He'd never heard his father talk to his mother that way before. Never. But his mother nodded, and moved closer to him as his father slid in front, blocking Scorpina or whoever she was from getting a chance at him with practiced ease.
But then, they were teammates. If he ever married, say, Teresa, he expected the same thing to happen. Then a tangental thought intruded. Marriage! Regina had attempted to marry either Teresa or Cecelia to Malgrath.
Now, apparently, it was his turn. He wondered if Scorpina's comment meant that she was betraying her instructions by trying to grab his Dad instead of him. He hoped Dimitria was watching, not that the Rangers could do much unmorphed in front of his parents.
He knew, too late, what Scorpina meant to do. He was too late to prevent his father from trying to block Scorpina's access to him. Scorpina got a good grasp on his father... and then they were gone.
"Dad," he almost whispered.
His mother squeesed his arm. "We'll get him back, Ian."
Ian was too afraid to nod, but he knew she was right. He knew his father's past, his mother's, and his own secret. No matter what, they would get his father back.
