Way Too Late

Kai watched as Kendrix went down the hallway, finding he was unable to say anything to her. It was obvious that her mind was someplace else. Leo, probably, or their new powers. Leo, more likely.

He didn't know what she saw in the stowaway. Mike's younger brother was just as irresponsible as Mike was responsible. Not the kind of person that he'd think the responsible, normally sensibly-minded Kendrix to fall for.

Of course, Kendrix could be weird that way. She was oblivious to all the guys who would love to call her their girlfriend. Smart, organized, friendly, someone that just got along great with anyone.

Would he have to be the responsible one on this team? They still had to make Leo and Maya legal members of Terra Venture. Kendrix was more concerned about scientific matters, Damon with anything he could take apart and fix. Maya was out of her element, and Leo shouldn't be there, much less be a Ranger. Leo couldn't even pull his brother out!

Mike was gone. He'd liked Mike, much more than he liked Leo. Still, they were teammates now - he had to get used to the new red Ranger. He knew from what interviews the last team had given that a Ranger team bonded very closely - that, or got themselves killed, and those they protected with them.

Could he watch Kendrix fall more in love with Leo, as the bonds between the team strengthened? Could he wish the two of them the best of luck?

He should have asked her out sooner. Then he would have had a chance with her, rather than have her fall head over heels for Leo. But who would have guessed? Nobody could have predicted the two of them meeting. Nobody.

But it was too late, way too late now. Things were happening that nobody could have predicted. Things could have been better, but nothing could be done. Just wait and see, and hope things would get better.
