"Why'd we have to come here?"
The young black teenager sighed. "I promised my folks that I'd keep an eye on her. They were busy today and couldn't come. 'Sides, she won't mind. Well, she will mind, but she won't mind us."
"I don't mind being around her, I mind being here."
Melinda scowled. *You're fourteen, you're more advanced than most of the people on this planet, and you're afraid of being in a cemetery?*
"You're fourteen, too, remember?" Marm said, responding out loud to her thoughts. "You're not even a full Watcher yet."
"I'm training," Melinda said. "I like being a Watcher. And as long as she spends time on holy ground, she's safe."
*And here she comes,* Marm said. *It looks like Michael's here, too.*
The two older people came over the hill, softly talking to each other. One was elderly, walking with a cane on the pavement, slightly bent but spirited. The young woman beside him looked no older than twice their age, certainly younger than the man she accompanied.
"Melinda," the woman said warmly. "I'm glad to see you. Your folks must be busy, huh? And Marm, as well. I'm glad to see you here."
"Yeah, they're busy, so they asked me to come."
"Good idea," the woman said. "Marm, how's your Dad and Grandfather? I don't see them very much, and heaven knows they're still welcome to pop in anytime."
"They're okay," Marm said. "They wanted to say hello, but they're both busy. Lilly broke out a few days ago."
"Well, that's one more teleporter in the family tree," she replied. "But why doesn't anyone tell me these things nowadays?"
"I think they meant to tell you, it's just that it's been kinda hectic."
"Somehow, I'm glad I'm not responsible for training you guys," she said.
Michael nodded, and added his own part to the conversation. "No, you just record, and record, and record."
*It's been so hectic, no one's told Greer about it? It doesn't take much to ring her up,* Melinda asked Marm.
Marm ran his fingers through his dark hair. *Lilly's been excited about the whole thing, with Dad and Grandpa being like her. It's not like she's gotten all of it through her head, yet. When she calms down, then they'll take her to Greer.*
"I guess I'll have to get ready for the demonstration, again," Greer said resignedly. "You folks have to break out at a slightly less hectic pace, or you'll tire me out."
Michael snickered. Marm said, "It's still hard to believe you haven't aged in fifty years or so."
"Slightly less than that," Greer said carelessly. "But ask your Grandfather or anyone else in that generation. I look the same today as when they met me in 1995."
"We're glad you're here," Melinda said. Greer nodded.
"Well, when you get to your eighties, you're allowed to do a lot."
Marm thought, *I still can't believe she's that old..*
*She's that old.*
"But you guys grow up fast. It doesn't seem that long ago when I was changing your Dads' diapers. Heck, it doesn't seem that long ago when I got Lisa into the Watchers."
"I still can't belive that you can remember Dad in diapers," Marm said.
Greer smiled, and ruffled his hair. "I did your diapers too. And Melinda's. And here you are, all broken out. A third generation of Damons that can teleport. I'm just sorry that you got your Mom's black hair instead of your Dad's red hair."
Marm shrugged. "It happens."
Greer sighed. "I'm going to lose your Grandparents someday. Outlive them. What am I going to do without a redheaded Damon?"
Melinda smiled. "Survive."
"Yeah, I guess so. Are you sticking around for lunch?"
Marm grimaced. "I'm afraid that I'm just here for a break. Gotta get home and keep Lilly out of trouble."
"You do that. And say hello to your folks for me. Tell them to give me a ring."
"Will do," Marm said. He concentrated, and vanished.
"And you?" Greer asked Melinda.
"No," Melinda said. "Too much to do, alas."
"I understand. Go. I'll tell your parents all about it later when they pop over for dinner. Tell them they're expected."
"I will," Melinda said. She concentrated, teleporting herself back to her house. After all, Greer was true to her word. She hardly needed a set of Watchers anymore.
Just her friends.
End.
