I, the archivist, (aka the Royal We) thought I might save both myself and some readers a bit of sanity by answering what will likely be the most frequently asked questions.

The FAQs:

1. If I submit a recommendation, how long does it take until it gets up?
2. The link is broken to an off-site story.
3. Why haven't you linked to some of the sites yet?
4. Why do some of the stories only link to the front page of fanfiction.net? How do I find the stories on that huge archive?
5. How come there are only a few recommendations on this site?
6. I remember this story I read a while ago, can you tell me where to find it?
7. Can you archive my fic?
8. What's pre-slash?
9. How many hits do the linked stories get? How many hits do you get in a day?
10. Have you ever gotten any recommendations that you've had to reject?
11. Why the font change on the front page? 12. My question hasn't been answered here. How do I get in touch with you?

1. If I submit a recommendation, how long does it take until it gets up?

Depends on my schedule. I'm running about once a month right now.

2. The link is broken to an off-site story.

Oops. Sites move, especially if I'm doing a direct link on fanfiction.net. Use the contact form and mention that the link is broken. I'll try to hunt a new link down.

3. Why haven't you linked to some of the sites yet?

Because I'm this polite, old fashioned person who prefers to ask first, link later. If I have an okay priorly filed, I'll link. If not... well, who knows. I may find a linkable archive with the story on it.

4. Why do some of the stories only link to the front page of fanfiction.net? How do I find the stories on that archive?

Mainly because I've only recently started to link to specific stories rather than to the front page of the archive. Yes, I know, I've been meaning to update the linkage.

5. How come there are only a few recommendations on this site?

Because almost every recommendation except for the three initially posted came from other people. This is not meant to be one person's review site. What the community gives me, I post.

6. I remember this story I read a while ago, can you tell me where to find it?

Possibly. I've read quite a few fics in my time in the fandom, but I haven't read every one, and some have disappeared over the years. You can ask, but I may not know the answer.

7. Can you archive my fic?

No. Unlike Cascade Library, which gave me the initial idea for this site, this site recommends and links offsite only (with the obvious exception of the archivist's fics if recommended). If you want to post, there are archives out there which will take your stuff - there are quite a few out there, like fanlibrary.net, fanfiction.net, and www.athersfictionlibrary.co.uk/pr/, just to name a few.

8. What's Pre-slash?

Oh, boy. Well, slash is homosexual pairings of characters, usually sexually explicit. Pre-slash is sometimes used to note non-sexual pairings. An example of a very mild pre-slash (and do not go here if you are uncomfortable with such things) is "The Art of Lying".

9. How many hits do the linked stories get? How many hits (visitors) do you get in a day?

Well, to answer in reverse order, the main page was getting an average of 13 hits per day, the whole directory about 164 hits a day (including graphics), based on the data from May 1-18, 2002. The only hit recipient I can measure, my own "Moving On", got 22 hits total during that time, or a little over 1/day.

10. Have you gotten any recommendations you had to reject?

One. Not because of bad writing or anything like that. It was because someone submitted a recommendation for a story they co-wrote. Yes, I will update the recommendation form to mention no self-recommendations.

11. Why the font change on the front page?

Because the original graphics were done on Photoshop Elements 1.0 on a PC. When Ninja Storm premiered, I had a Mac (and PE 2.0). So I redid the titles in a different font.

12. My question isn't here. How do I get in contact with you?

To save myself from spammers, I designed a contact form (linked above). Emails will get to me, however.
