This was probably the first PR fanfiction story/series I came across when I blundered into the fandom. The first story in the series (Personality Conflicts) features the Zeo rangers having one or two problems, centred around Tommy and some nightmares he's having.
I can't say much more about that, because that would give away the plot and I don't want to spoil it for you, but it nicely sets up the next 33 (and counting) stories.
It's not a Tommy-centric universe by any manner of means. So providing your favourite character comes from the first four incarnations of the show, there's probably a story based around them. Whether later incarnations of the show will get worked into the universe is another matter - although there is a reference to Lost Galaxy - but in all honesty, that's of minor importance. This is literally a story that has been a year in the making. It's the story of a great galactic prophesy and a coming storm, featuring a huge cast of characters. It centres on Billy and starts out with him meeting an artiste called Skye whose paintings are uncannily reminiscent of a certain fabled planet... There is romance, there is action, there is suspense (particularly if you happened to have been one of Peregrine's fans who's been waiting almost exactly a year for the final installment...but I digress), there is humour...in fact, you name it, it probably features along the way. In all of my two years of fan-fiction reading, "The Earth Crystals" is one of the first, and one the best, major PR story sagas. Starting out with a slow beginning, it clearly depicts a desperate situation on Earth.
Due to an unexplained emergency, the Zeo Rangers travel to Aquitar. When they get there, it is an elaborate trap set up by a new and more powerful enemy, Jenga, who wants to have a defenseless Earth so that she can salvage thirteen powerful crystals. If it happened that all of the crystals would fall into evil hands, it would render the Rangers powerless and destroy their powerful mentors (Zordon, Dimitria, etc.).
But not if Zordon can do anything about it. Summoning Billy, Jason and Kimberly back to the Command Center, he has them retrieve the first crystal, of that can bring back the first six Power coins to help defend the Earth until the Zeo Rangers arrive back from Aquitar and defend the Earth against Jenga.
The whole saga is wholly different than from the normal Power Ranger storylines, but it nevertheless entertaining. The Rangers are more or less fully developed to what they are in the show. But the saga mostly profits from Jeremy's unique writing ability. Carefully blending suspense, horror, drama, mystery, romance and even a bit of comedy, he created a well-defined, thoroughly enjoyable, ongoing Power Ranger fan fiction saga that reveals and entertains more at each reading.
As with Ellen Brand's "Personality Conflicts," Jeremy Ray Logsdon's "The Earth Crystals" will you leave you breathless and makes you yearn for more and just might make you wish that the show (s) would just be like it!
