As I read this story, it was as if I was watching a more adult-oriented PR show. Not in the perverted sense, thank you very much, but a story with developing relationships and 3D characters that suffer as much as they laugh. It depicts the life of Merrick, the Lunar Wolf Ranger, back in the day when Animaria was a real Kingdom and Princess Shayla had an actual kingdom to be Princess *of*.
Moreso than the actual story (of which sadly, only two chapters are written), it was the style of the writing that drew me to it. I really think this deserves to be in this rec site! Archived at Fanfiction.net
Since the episode aired last year, there have been a number of Forever something type fics. Several attempts have been made to make a fanfic revolving around Forever Red, but few have successfully managed to add to what was a very good episode.
This writer has managed it; Forever Red: The Novel is an excellent translation from screen to fanfiction. The background stories Rob added are well thought out, the research into the characters and their motivations adds to the established storyline. There is humour, some sadness and enough action to please most people. The rewritten ending reflects more on the freedom afforded to the medium than the author's desire to make it different.
