Zeo / Drama

Snowbound by Rain Fletcher
Recommended by Lee Burton

This story sets the stage for Rain's epic "Earthsiege", finding a few of the Zeo Rangers on a ski trip, and they learn more about themselves. A solid story, well written, and it gives a little background for Earthsiege. Read it, and I highly suggest reading ES also. Found at Rain's World

Archivist's note: Lee's recommendation of Earthsiege is in the Crossovers section.

Legacy by Gamine

One of the most obvious directions to take with Power Rangers is to drive it into the full on fantasy genre, yet this move is surprisingly rarely made and mostly those few attempts fall at the first hurdle.

Legacy is different. The story centres around Jason and Billy, and specifically a heritage they knew nothing about until one night up in the mountains when they share an especially vivid nightmare... What follows is an extremely rich and beautifully written story that works on so many levels. All the original characters are fully rounded and believable and there are nice touches of humour throughout that make it an absolute delight to read.

It does take a few liberties with official Zeo cannon, but the changes work out extremely well and beyond the first chapter they're unnoticable. Archived at fanfiction.net.

Archivist's note: As of the time of recommendation, this was a Work in Progress.

Catalyst by Peregrine

A story about Billy and Jason who meet again under dramatic circumstances during the construction of Terra Venture. It deals with their present lives and how their experiences as Rangers, mainly during Zeo, have influenced their lives. Great character study, a ripping good yarn that would make a great movie, a bit of romance, and all about the power of friendship. Archived at Der Maerchenerzaehler among other places.

Cry of the Wolf by Kevin McPhail
Recommended by Eva Beckwith

Set after the trilogy episodes of "No Business Like Snow Business", this two volume story is an early, and classic, "Billy returns as a modified Wolf nijetti to save all his friends who have lost their Zeo powers" action adventure that was being posted in sections on alt.fan.power-rangers even before Zeo ended in 1996. Good characterizations -- including even minor characters like Bulk and Skull -- with excellently drawn original villains that Billy must fight alone to win back the Zeo powers, while dealing with his own internal angst concerning his dark side. McPhail's writing, though a little rough at times, shows great promise, and it is interesting to read his projections concerning a wolf spirit/guardian influence in comparison to how PR deals with the Lunar Wolf Ranger in Wild Force. A classic that should not be overlooked. Archived at Paladar's.

Homecoming by Kristen Murphy
Recommended by Eva Beckwith

As the author notes, this story is an alternate ending to "Mr. Billy's Wild Ride." On his way back to Earth from his first visit to Aquitar, Billy's ship is attacked by King Mondo's Quadrafighters. As a result, Billy discovers how much he needs all of his friends if he is to truly make it all the way home. Murphy is an excellent writer. Her characterizations are right on target, with many appropriate canon references. The action scenes are exciting, and very nicely balanced by the emotional interactions in the relationships. A highly satisfying "must read" classic for all ages. The story is housed at Kitty's PR Mania site, but Murphy suggests that you access it through her own PR site at http://www.kiva.net/~muggs/fanfic.html

Another one of those "Billy's exit needs to be more satisfying stories" only for once Cestria isn't evil-- or even mentioned. Rocky tries to save his family from a house fire and ends up in the afterlife-- where he runs into Billy. A very nice fic where these two characters who generally didn't seem to interact much form a much more solid friendship than is generally shown on the show (at least in the ABC Family run episodes). An enjoyable read, even with some of the stranger (and more amusing) twists that I won't give away here. Archived at Kittie's Fic Shoppe.
